Pune Metro Set to Expand with New District Court to Swargate Line
PUNE – The much-anticipated Pune Metro route from District Court to Swargate is nearing completion. The new line, which spans 3.64 km and includes three stations—Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate—is set to launch before Ganeshotsav, pending final inspection.
Construction of the underground metro line is finished. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) is scheduled to start the inspection on Friday, August 30, 2024. This inspection is crucial for the final clearance needed to begin passenger services.
With the state assembly elections approaching in September, the Maha-Metro aims to have the new metro service operational before Ganeshotsav. However, the exact start date will depend on how quickly the CMRS completes the inspection and issues the necessary clearance certificate.

The new metro line will be a significant addition to Pune’s transit system. It will be the first in the city to run beneath a riverbed, as part of the route passes under the Mutha river between District Court and Budhwar Peth stations.
Atul Gadgil, Director of Maha-Metro, confirmed that the construction is complete. He noted, “We are aiming to start the service before Ganeshotsav. The CMRS will inspect the line starting Friday. Once we receive the clearance, we will propose to the state government to begin services.”
If the CMRS inspection is completed on time and the state government approves, the metro service could start in September. However, the implementation of the election code of conduct at the end of August could potentially delay this schedule.
The new metro line is expected to be a blessing for the Peth area, which is known for its busy streets and the revered Ganesha temple. Many devotees visit the area for blessings, and the new metro service will make their journey easier by avoiding the crowded streets and traffic.
Overall, the District Court to Swargate metro route will enhance convenience for commuters and support the increasing number of devotees heading to the Peth area.
