Approved in a recent meeting of the Board of Directors, this initiative aims to streamline city travel.

According to a senior PMPML official, the board has greenlit the addition of 20 electric and air-conditioned double decker buses to Pune’s transportation network. These buses are expected to significantly enhance passenger comfort during journeys across the city.

The decision to introduce double decker buses was originally set in motion by the former PMPML President, Omprakash Bakoria, in December 2022, receiving subsequent board approval. The administration plans to commence the tender process next week, following a year and a half from the initial decision to the tender initiation. Anticipated timelines suggest it may take approximately six months before the buses become operational.

Features of the New Double Decker Buses:

• Electric and Air-Conditioned: The buses will be equipped with electric propulsion and air-conditioning systems, ensuring a comfortable ride for passengers.
• Enhanced Suspension: Improved suspension systems will further contribute to passenger comfort, complemented by the ability to issue digital tickets onboard.
• Design Inspiration: Drawing inspiration from iconic London buses, the new double deckers will feature a similar aesthetic appeal.
• Capacity and Accessibility: Each bus will accommodate up to 70 passengers, with standing room available for 40 individuals. With a height of 14 feet 4 inches, these buses will navigate urban spaces smoothly, including metro stations.
• Financial Investment: Priced at approximately 2 crore rupees each, these buses represent a significant investment in enhancing Pune’s public transit infrastructure.
