Heavy rainfall in Lonavala.
Heavy rainfall has pounded Lonavala in the last 24 hours. Continuous heavy rainfall in Lonavala, similar to the rest of Pune district, has led to the closure of schools under the Lonavala Municipal Council (LMC) for Thursday, July 25, and Friday, July 26. This decision has been made to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid the ongoing severe weather conditions.

Lonavala has been hit by extremely heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, shattering all previous records. Reports indicate that Lonavala received 275 mm of rain, causing rivers and water bodies in the area to overflow. This year, Lonavala has already seen 2601 mm of rainfall, which is 101 mm more than the same period last year.
The town is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over the country, especially from Pune and Mumbai. The waterfalls in the Sahyadri mountain range, combined with the lush greenery, make Lonavala a must-visit during the monsoon season, drawing large crowds on weekends. The Indrayani River and Bhushi Dam have also started overflowing due to the heavy rainfall.
There has also been a huge increase in the water capacity of the Indrayani River. In the area of Karla, Malawali, Sadapur, the water from the Indrayani River has spread in the surrounding area. Since there is about one and a half to two feet of water on the road from Deole to Malavali, the citizens have to wade through this water to travel.
The Government of Maharashtra has issued cautionary advisories, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy rains.
