Hadapsar, 31st August 2024: An elderly couple from Pune lost gold jewelry worth ₹5 lakh in a theft that happened in broad daylight. The incident occurred when the couple stopped at a vada pav shop.

The couple, identified as 69-year-old Dashtrath Babaulal Dhamne and his wife Jayashree, reside in White Field Society, Manjari. They had just retrieved their gold jewelry from the State Bank of India (SBI) and were heading home.

According to reports and CCTV footage circulating on social media, the couple stopped at a vada pav shop on Pune-Solapur Road. The footage shows Dashtrath entering the shop to buy food while Jayashree waited by their scooter. The video captured a man in a white shirt approaching their scooter, grabbing the bag containing the jewelry, and walking away.

The theft took place in the afternoon. The footage quickly spread online, leading to various reactions from the public. Some expressed sympathy for the couple, while others criticized them for not securing their valuables better.

Dashtrath and Jayashree reported the theft to the Hadapsar Police Station. Police Officer Shrikant Pandule is investigating the case. Officers are analyzing the CCTV footage and searching for the suspect.

This incident highlights the need for caution when carrying valuable items. The couple hopes the police will recover their stolen jewelry soon.
