Harshvardhan Sapkal is a retired Congress MLA.
He was Buldhana MLA from 2014 to 2019. In 2019, he received a ticket again, but he had to be defeated. Sapkal had initiated a water conservation management project in the constituency during his tenure as MLA.
Harshvardhan Sapkal is now the national president of the Congress’s Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Organization. Sapkal was instrumental in the formation of Gram Swarajya based on the thought of Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave. He has experience of active involvement in the Gram Swachhta Abhiyan and the Adarsh Gram Movement. He entered political life as a part of the National Students Union of India (NSUI). He has been vice-president of Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress. He has B.Com and B. P. Ed degrees from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. He is a son of a farmer and is engaged in social work and politics. He has made unique contributions under the Sant Gadge Baba Gram Swachhta Abhiyan initiated in Maharashtra to achieve the resolution of Gram Swarajya. His efforts in the village cleanliness field and construction of an ideal village are extraordinary. His frequent and steady management of youth camps among youths indicates his ideological dedication.
This is also believed to be an excellent achievement. He has undertaken special exceptional work in the realm of water management and water saving with his work on the water conservation project he has undertaken in his assembly constituency for agricultural independence and for eradicating poverty. He has been working assiduously and dedicatedly for the past 25 years towards empowering the tribal and tribal villages of Buldhana district. He is renowned as the youngest Zilla Parishad President in Maharashtra during the period 1999-2002. It is notable to state here that during his working time, Buldhana Zilla Parishad was the best in Maharashtra.
He has also represented the Legislative Assembly from Buldhana Vidhan Sabha constituency since 2014 to 2019. At present, he is engaged in the political front through the All India National Congress as the National President, Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Organization. He has also worked as National Secretary, A.B.A.K. Committee, New Delhi and National Vice President, Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Organization. In connection with the 125th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, he has been working for Constitution awareness in all villages, settlements and wards of Buldhana Vidhan Sabha constituency by conducting the Samvidhan Chetna Yatra. He has also been working as Congress Secretary and as Co-in-charge of Punjab. He has also worked earlier as Co-in-charge of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
He has been able to discharge the party-assigned duty as the National Camp Coordinator of the countrywide Gandhi Vichar Darshan Camp organized by the A.B.A.K. Committee at the Gandhi Ashram Sevagram- Wardha. Besides this, he has also been on the screening committee formed by the party for the shortlisting of candidates in the assembly elections for different states. He has brought a delegation of 20 young Indians to the International Youth Conference held in Japan in 1996 by Japan International Corporation under the Global Friendship Campaign in the 21st Century.
