Pune Municipal Corporation Launches Eco-Friendly Initiative for Ganesh Idol Donors

Pune — In a unique effort to promote eco-friendly practices, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a new initiative. This program is designed to reward citizens who donate their Ganesh idols to the corporation. The aim is to encourage responsible disposal of idols and support sustainable gardening practices.

Details of the Initiative

Under this new program, 15,000 citizens will receive a 3-kg bag of organic fertilizer. To earn this reward, participants must donate their Ganesh idols to PMC. “We want to encourage citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices. This fertilizer, made from Nirmalya collected during Ganpati immersion, will help reduce waste and promote organic gardening,” said Sandeep Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management.

How the Fertilizer is Made

The organic fertilizer will be produced at Pashan Lake. It will be made from Nirmalya, which is the leftover materials collected during the Ganpati immersion. PMC has worked with various social organizations to ensure the success of this initiative.

Additional Cleanliness Measures

To support the initiative, PMC has also implemented several cleanliness measures. Officials will work in three shifts during Ganeshotsav to ensure cleanliness. Open garbage disposal has been prohibited.

Moreover, 400 mobile toilets will be placed around the city to support sanitation. The ghats, where idols are immersed, will be cleaned regularly. “This initiative promotes a clean and green Pune. We urge citizens to participate in the idol donation program and support our cleanliness drive,” Kadam added.
